Over the last few years, Microsoft has been slowly bringing back the Age of Empires series. At the moment, we have Definitive Edition remasters for Age of Empires and Age of Empires II and as of October, the trilogy will be completed, with Age of Empires III finally releasing.
Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is coming out on the 15th of October across Steam, the Microsoft Store and Xbox Game Pass for PC. Meanwhile, those who are signed up to the Insider Programme will be able to test early builds of the game over the next couple of months to provide feedback.
There are no extra campaigns this time around, although that is something modders could potentially fix at some point down the line. In the base game, you will get access to two new civilisations though- the Swedes and Inca. There are also two new game modes and all previous expansions are also included, in addition to remastered graphics and touched-up UI elements.
This of course will all lead up to Age of Empire IV, which Microsoft has been working on for a few years now. We got out first look at it during XO19 last year and hopefully, we'll see even more of it in 2021.
KitGuru Says: I've been enjoying Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition for a few months now, so I'll be looking forward to checking out AoE 3 again after all these years. Have many of you been playing the newer Definitive Editions of Age of Empires? Or are you holding off for the big release of Age of Empires IV?
