Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires officially announced

The Dynasty Warriors franchise has long had a committed fanbase, thanks to the unique sense of satisfaction gained from taking on hundreds of enemies at any given time. Still, over the years, the franchise appears to have turned stale in the eyes of fans, with the most recent mainline entry, Dynasty Warriors 9, being particularly panned. During Tokyo Game Show, Koei Tecmo announced the next game in the series, Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires, which aims to fix some of the previous game’s failings.

The Empires sub franchise has often focused more heavily on strategy when compared to the mainline entries. Still, these games would often see improvements over the mainline entry which it is based off of. Such is the case with Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires, which will not feature an open world.

Though many games would often tout open-world environments as a selling point, the open-world in Dynasty Warriors 9 was heavily criticised for its emptiness and lack of function in terms of adding any value to the gameplay.

Though it has yet to receive a full release date, Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires will launch some time in Early 2021 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One Consoles, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The description for the game reads as follows: “Combining the 1 vs. 1,000 action of DYNASTY WARRIORS with the addition of strategic elements, including unit command, DYNASTY WARRIORS 9 Empires sets players on a quest to conquer ancient China by both sword and strategy. Powerful Siege Battles enable commanders to deploy units to capture strategic points on the map like castles.”

”Experiencing high-stakes fights at every turn, players can now take control of these central points on the battlefield through the use of fire attacks or other stratagem, siege weapons, and, at times, simply by force as commanders execute their strategies and attack enemy troops by issuing vital commands to units throughout the skirmish.”
