Leak suggests that the ‘Vermeer’ processors will belong to the Ryzen 5000 series

A new tweet posted by software engineer Patrick Schur suggests that AMD will indeed skip the Ryzen 4000 naming scheme for the upcoming Zen3 processors. The decision behind this could be that the company wants to unify the name of the upcoming Ryzen “Cezanne” APUs, which use Zen3 architecture, with the Ryzen Vermeer desktop processors referring to both as the Ryzen 5000 series.

The Ryzen Vermeer processors naming scheme change has been previously reported by wjm4719 at Chiphell forum. Patrick's Schurr latest tweet is another hint that AMD might unify all the Zen3 based chips on a single naming scheme.

Patrick's tweet also mentioned a couple of Ryzen 5000 SKUs, the Ryzen 9 5900X with 12 cores and the Ryzen 7 5800X with 8 cores. Based on the naming, it seems that the rumoured 10-core processor found on AGESA 1.0.8.1 might not exist or it won't be launched immediately. It's also possible that it will be named 5850X, but only time will tell how this will unfold.

AMD Zen3 processors have not been officially announced, but a source of VideoCardz claims that Zen3 is a major redesign that focuses on perf/watt and scalability. The Zen3 processors will bring improved IPC, 8 cores per CCX, a new IO chip with an enhanced memory controller, better SMT, and a redesigned boost behaviour. Besides being more efficient, the “boost clock” behaviour won't focus on reaching higher clocks, but on sustaining it for longer periods.

AMD will announce its Zen3 processors on October 8th.

KitGuru says:  Do you think AMD will name the Zen3 desktop processors as Ryzen 5000? How much will they improve over their predecessors? Are you hoping to get one of these?
