During Nvidia's GeForce RTX 30 series graphics card announcement, the company also unveiled a new 12-pin power connector for its higher-end GPUs. Seasonic is already prepared to support this new connection and has a plan in place to send out new 12-pin GPU cables to customers free of charge.
The RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 both feature a 12-pin power connector. While these graphics cards will ship with an adaptor, Seasonic wants to ensure its customers have a native 12-pin cable available to them in the form of the 12-pin Micro-Fit 3.0 connector cable set. The cable features 9 A high current, 16 AWG for high efficiency and come in at 750mm long with 2x 8-pin power connectors to fit PRIME, FOCUS and CORE power supply units.
Starting on the 16th of September, the Seasonic website will be updated with a page that current FOCUS, CORE or PRIME PSU owners can fill out to get their 12-pin power cable for Nvidia's new graphics cards. Customers will just need to provide a serial number and photo of their PSU, as well as proof of purchase of an Nvidia RTX 30 series graphics card.
Due to Nvidia's recommendation that RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 GPU owners use a 650W or above power supply, these cables are being reserved for those who own a 650W or higher PSU. If you don't have a PRIME, FOCUS or CORE series Seasonic PSU but instead use something a bit older, you will need to contact Seasonic support for details on compatibility with the new 12-pin cable.
These cables will be shipped to customers for free until the end of the year. After that, you may need to buy one, or just use the adaptor that ships with the RTX 30 series GPU.
KitGuru Says: It is great to see Seasonic looking out for its customers and current user-base like this. Do many of you use a Seasonic PSU? Will you be claiming one of these cables for an RTX 30 series GPU upgrade?
