Marvel Rivals confirmed for consoles, beta tests kick off in July

In recent weeks we've seen plenty of leaks for Marvel Rivals, including the full character roster and unique move sets for each hero. Last night during State of Play, we got some official news for a change. If you're interested in Marvel's new team-based shooter, there will be a beta test in July.

The PvP-focused shooter, which takes some clear inspiration from games like Overwatch, is due to release later this year for both PC and consoles. The game has now been confirmed for both Xbox Series X/S and PS5, and a new trailer has revealed new characters like Venom and Adam Warlock:

While we don't have an exact release date for the game yet, a closed beta test is coming in July for PC and console platforms. However, those on PS5 will get an exclusive freebie for participating, a Scarlet Spider cosmetic skin.

This isn't the first time that Sony has extended its ownership of the Spider-Man IP beyond Insomniac's games. Previously Sony also struck an infamous deal with Square Enix to ensure that Spider-Man was only playable on the PlayStation version of Marvel's Avengers, which eventually flopped and has now stopped receiving updates. Fortunately this time around, Marvel Rivals is a free to play game. Without the Triple A price tag, little exclusive bonuses here and there are much easier to look past.
