18 of PS4’s best games will be given to PS5 owners for free

At Sony’s most recent PlayStation 5 showcase event, alongside the announcement of exciting new titles such as a God of War Sequel and a first look at Demon’s Souls gameplay, the console manufacturer revealed that all those who buy a PlayStation 5 will receive 18 of the PS4’s most “generation defining” titles for free with a PS Plus subscription.

Titled the “PS Plus Collection,” new PS5 owners will be able to “enjoy a selection of generation defining PS4 games” for free at launch – assuming you have a PlayStation Plus subscription. In total, 18 games will be offered:

  • Batman: Arkham Knight
  • Battlefield 1
  • Bloodborne
  • Days Gone
  • Detroit: Become Human
  • Fallout 4
  • Final Fantasy XV
  • God of War
  • inFAMOUS: Second Son
  • The Last Guardian
  • The Last of Us Remastered
  • Monster Hunter: World
  • Mortal Kombat X
  • Persona 5
  • Ratchet & Clank
  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
  • Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
  • Until Dawn

Though many PlayStation 4 owners will likely already have played a number of these titles, the sheer amount and variety of games being offered for free means that there is likely to be at least a couple games for everyone. Furthermore, anyone buying a PlayStation console for the first time will be able to enjoy some of Sony’s most highly rated first party titles.

While these titles will not be receiving any sort of PlayStation 5 remaster (at least not as part of the collection), many of these games still look and play great in their current PS4/Pro variants, meaning that despite not being next-gen versions, there will still be plenty to enjoy, as the next-gen library slowly begins to build up post-launch.

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
