Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition draws criticism for leaving out PC from ray-tracing upgrade

Capcom has been doing very well with its efforts on the PC gaming side of development for a few years now. Unfortunately, the publisher has hit a bump in the road this week with Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, which has graphical and performance enhancements that will only be available on next-gen consoles.

Speaking with Eurogamer about the decision, a Capcom spokesperson said that the game is “specifically being developed and optimised to benefit the system architecture and leap in processing power offered by PS5 and Xbox Series X”. He then added that there are “no plans” for Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition on PC.

The weird part about all of this is that a lot of the features they are developing to take advantage of have been available on PC for a long time now. Enhanced CPUs, better GPUs, fast SSDs etc have all been staples of high-end PC gaming for years.

The other part of this is that ray-tracing will be exclusive to the console versions of the game, a particularly odd stance given that AMD is about to release new GPUs with ray-tracing hardware acceleration and Nvidia has had GPUs capable of this very feature for over two years now.

KitGuru Says: There are a number of players protesting this decision on the Devil May Cry 5 Steam page. It is an unfortunate turn of events for what is otherwise an excellent game all around. There doesn't seem to be a good reason that these features couldn't be on PC, so hopefully Capcom will take notice.
