NieR Replicant Ver. 1.22474487139 serves as a remake/remaster to the predecessor of the critically acclaimed NieR: Automata. Announced back in March via a teaser trailer, very little was known regarding the depth of the remake, nor its planned release schedule. As part of Tokyo Games Show, Square Enix held a NieR-related panel, revealing not only a first look at gameplay for Replicant, but also the game’s release date.
NieR Replicant Ver. 1.22474487139 will launch on the 22nd of April 2021 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in Japan, with its Western release coming just one day later on the 23rd. The game’s 22nd of April 2021 launch will coincide with the original game’s 11th anniversary.
Despite releasing after the launch of the next generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Seres S/X, there is currently no word on whether these systems will see any enhancements.
Alongside the release date, Square Enix shared a first look at gameplay including the revamped combat system, which appears to be much closer in nature to that of its sequel NieR: Automata. Unlike Automata however, which was developed by PlatinumGames, NieR Replicant is being developed by Toylogic, who have been involved to some degree with the development of The Evil Within, Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
That being said, the Director for NieR Replicant continues to be Yoko Taro, meaning that the vision for this remake, the original NieR, and Automata should all remain consistent. With NieR Replicant Ver. 1.22474487139 still over half a year away however, hopefully fans will get the chance to see more in the coming months. The full panel can be viewed HERE.
