Earlier this month, Square Enix officially announced Final Fantasy 16, complete with what appeared to be a very meaty trailer. Not only did we see cinematic story elements, but there was also gameplay backed in. Now, reports indicate that the full game is coming sooner than expected.
Speaking on the Triple Click Podcast, Jason Schreier noted that he has heard from people familiar with the game's development. According to his sources, Final Fantasy 16 has been in development “for at least four years in some capacity”. He then added that “it's coming sooner than people think”.
The last mainline Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy XV, took over ten years to release, after being announced as Final Fantasy Versus 13 back in 2006. A ten year gap from announcement to release is a bad precedent and is apparently something that the developers want to “shy away from”.
Final Fantasy 16 is being directed by the same director that helmed Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and is also being produced by long-time Final Fantasy producer, Naoki Yoshida.

KitGuru Says: Final Fantasy 16 should be here within the next couple of years if all of this proves to be true. Hopefully we'll also see it come to PC and/or other platforms after its initial release on PS5.
