Intel confirms Rocket Lake-S is coming in Q1 2021

Intel has finally confirmed the release date of Rocket Lake-S. Scheduled for Q1 2021, the 11th generation of Intel desktop processors will support PCIe 4.0, and as usual, Intel claims that “it’ll be another fantastic processor for gaming”.

Intel's confirmation comes after HD-Tecnologia leaked the alleged roadmap of the 500-series motherboards. As per the roadmap, Rocket Lake-S and compatible motherboards will release in March 2021, more exactly on the 10th week of 2021, according to VideoCardz.

Rocket Lake-S is expected to be the last architecture to feature the LGA1200 socket. Nonetheless, Intel is planning to release the typical full set of motherboards including the entry-level H510, the mid-range B560 and H570, the gaming-oriented Z590, and the workstation W580 (scheduled for April 2021). The Q470 chipset won't receive a successor. It's also expected that Rocket Lake-S will be compatible with 400-series motherboards, just like Comet Lake-S processors will be supported on the 500-series motherboards.

HD-Tecnologia's report also points out that Intel's HEDT platforms won't be updated until late 2021. AMD is also mentioned, claiming that the company won't release new chipsets for the Zen3 processors. By the second half of 2021, when Zen3+ is expected to release, AMD will then release new chipsets.

With Intel confirming the release of Rocket Lake-S right when AMD is about to announce its Ryzen 5000 desktop series, everyone that was thinking about upgrading their systems might want to wait a bit longer. Both platforms are expected to be the last from their respective companies to use DDR4 RAM, given that DDR5 is ready to launch.

Intel also stated that more about Rocket Lake architecture will be disclosed “in the near future”.
