Intel’s 11th Gen Rocket Lake-S processor architecture detailed

Intel has detailed its upcoming Rocket Lake-S processor architecture. Scheduled for release in Q1 2021, Rocket Lake-S has appeared in multiple leaks and rumours, but it was only confirmed by Intel recently. A new presentation on Rocket Lake-S confirms some rumours and denies others.

Rocket Lake-S will feature up to 8 cores and 16 threads. As per Intel's presentation, these new processors will come with a double-digit IPC increase thanks to the use of the Cypress Cove core design, a 14nm version of the Sunny Cove core design used on Ice Lake processor architecture. The iGPU will feature Xe Graphics architecture, offering about 50% more performance than the 9th Gen iGPU. Supported display resolutions include up to 3x 4K@60 displays or 2x 5K@60 displays through DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0b, and HBR3 (High Bit Rate 3).

Rocket Lake-S will also feature a new memory controller, supporting up to DDR4-3200 memory speeds, and PCIe Gen4 lanes, totalling 20 CPU PCIe Gen4 lanes, allowing users to attach an SSD and a discrete GPU at the same time. Additionally, it will feature Intel Deep Learning Boost and VNNI support for enhanced AI performance and new overclocking features.

Alongside the new 11th Gen desktop processors, Intel will release its 500 series motherboards, but Intel 400 series motherboards will also support Rocket Lake-S processors.

KitGuru says: Will you wait for Intel Rocket Lake-S before upgrading your CPU? Can Intel Rocket Lake-S rival the AMD Ryzen 5000 series?
