During the Ryzen 5000 series announcement, AMD promised that “over 100 AMD 500 series motherboards from all major motherboard manufacturers” will be ready for the Ryzen 5000 processors. As it seems, they were not lying as most motherboard manufacturers already have at least an AGESA Combo-AM4 v2 1.0.8.x firmware update ready to be downloaded.
AMD hasn't officially announced the 600-series motherboards, and by the looks of it, it won't. As per AMD's claims, the Ryzen 5000 processors will be the last featuring the AM4 socket, meaning that the 5000-series motherboards might well be the last using this same socket.
Selected 400-series motherboards will receive Zen 3 support, but the Beta firmware should only arrive in January 2021. If a user wants to build a PC using the Ryzen 5000 processors at launch, the only option will be to use a 500-series motherboard. Only these motherboards will fulfil all the requirements for the Ryzen 5000 processors as they are the only to have a BIOS update featuring the AGESA Combo-AM4 v2 1.0.8.x firmware, the minimum AGESA version for the Ryzen 5000 series.
ComputerBase has put together a massive list with all the motherboards from MSI, Asus, ASRock, Biostar, and Gigabyte featuring the AGESA v2 1.0.8.x or more. MSI has gone a step further, and it already released a Beta BIOS update featuring AGESA v2 1.1.0.0, which is expected to exit Beta at the end of October.
The following list of motherboards featuring a BIOS update with AMD AGESA Combo-AM4 v2 1.0.8.x (or higher):

One thing to note is that the 400-series flagship motherboards don't support Zen 3 processors yet, but the entry-level A520 motherboards do. This might create some confusion and frustration for the customers. Technically, £50 A520 motherboards support the upcoming Ryzen 9 5950X processors, but the most expensive X470 motherboard that was released just two year ago doesn't, yet. Let's hope that as AMD accelerates its plans regarding the support of Zen 3 on 400-series motherboards.
KitGuru says: Are you hoping to get a Ryzen 5000 series processor on release? Do you already own an A520, B550, or X570 motherboard? Will you download the latest AGESA upgrade for your motherboard?
