Intel Xeon roadmap leaks, first Ice Lake server CPUs scheduled for Q1 2021

An alleged roadmap of the Intel Xeon series of processors has leaked, showing when we can expect to see the release of the long-awaited Ice Lake and Sapphire Rapids server processors.

During Intel's recent quarterly earnings call, CEO Bob Swan claimed that they are “targeting qualification” of the 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Ice Lake processors for the end of Q4, with mass production starting in Q1 2021.

The new Intel roadmap shared by VideoCardz seems to be somewhat in accordance with Bob Swan's statement. The following roadmap is divided by colours, with the green meaning “shipping”, blue for “in development”, purple for “planning/next-gen”, and orange for “concept”.

Starting by the “dense” segment, Intel is not planning to launch a successor to Walker Pass, at least until the end of 2022. On the other hand, Buchanan Pass will be succeeded by the Tennessee Pass (Ice Lake) at the end of Q1/beginning of Q2 2021, which will then be succeeded by Denali Pass (Sapphire Rapids), featuring DDR5 and PCIe Gen5 support.

On the “mainstream” segment, Wolf pass refresh will be succeeded by Coyote Pass (Ice Lake) at the same time that Tennesse Pass launches. Two quarters later, Fox Creek Pass (Sapphire Rapids) will then replace it. The “entry” segment will also get new SKUs in early 2021 (Tatlow based on Rocket Lake) and mid-2021 (North Pass based on Ice Lake).
