Nintendo has experimented with cloud versions of games in Japan previously, with ‘cloud version' releases for both Resident Evil VII and Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Now, cloud versions of new titles are starting to come to the Switch in other territories too, starting with Control and Hitman 3.
Control: Ultimate Edition Cloud Version has been announced for the Nintendo Switch today, as announced during a Direct Partner presentation.
Aside from that, a Cloud Version of Hitman 3 is coming to Switch in January 2021 alongside the release of the game on other platforms.
This appears to be Nintendo's new tactic for keeping up with big third-party releases as next-gen consoles begin to spread. However, there are a lot of unanswered questions, as we don't know what service Nintendo is relying on to stream these games to customers, nor do we know how well this will work on a broad scale outside of Japan.
KitGuru Says: The WiFi chip inside the Nintendo Switch isn't the best, so I am curious to see how well this all ends up working. What do you think of the idea of ‘cloud versions' of games coming to Switch?
