Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond might be the most demanding VR game to date

Respawn Entertainment is testing out new waters next week with the launch of Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond – the studio's first VR game. Unfortunately, it is looking to be one of the most demanding titles to date, with very high recommended system requirements and a massive download size.

The minimum spec for the game is about what you would expect, calling for a 64-bit version of Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-7500 or Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, 12GB of RAM and a GTX 1060 or RX 580 graphics card. As we look towards the recommended spec though, things take a huge jump.

The recommended system requirements for Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond are as follows:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel i7 9700K equivalent or greater
  • Memory: 16GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia RTX 2080 equivalent or greater
  • Storage: 180GB available space

Speaking with Polygon, Respawn has also noted that players will actually need 340GB of space free for the install, after which the game shrinks to its 180GB size. Making matters more complicated, Oculus Studios producer, Mike Doran, has been answering questions about the game on Reddit, recommending that users install the game on an SSD to avoid potential hitching or frame rate issues due to the slower speeds of HDDs.

If you do have the hardware for it though, then Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is shaping up to be a great VR shooter. The game includes a full single-player campaign that should take around 12 hours to complete, in addition to multiplayer modes. As a Triple A VR production, it could end up sitting in a similar ranking to Half-Life: Alyx, which is largely considered to be the best VR game to date.

KitGuru Says: Are many of you planning on playing Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond when it comes out? Do the high hardware and storage requirements put you off at all?
