Sony’s support for retro PlayStation titles has been somewhat mixed this generation, with its PS Plus Premium plan being the primary way to play PSOne and PS2 titles. That said, of the limited selection currently available, many have had trophy support added after the fact. In a surprise update, more titles have now received support for the feature.
PlayStation trophies weren’t introduced until the PS3, and so all classic PS2 and PS1 games which were available on the 7th-gen console featured no such trophy functionality.
That said, with the launch of the revamped PlayStation Plus a couple years ago, which included a new tier known as PS Plus Premium, those subscribed to the plan have been able to play a selection of classic titles – some of which have had trophy support added.
While trophy support for classic games has until now been limited to PlayStation’s first-party titles, a surprise update has now added a full suite of trophies for a small number of 3rd-party titles.
As noted by ResetEra user Chaserjoey, Disney Pixar’s Toy Story 3, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!; and Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare have now been updated to feature trophies – Platinums included!
It’s interesting to see all these older titles being retroactively fitted to include trophy support for those who enjoy the hunt. Hopefully this is the start of a renewed focus on PlayStation’s portfolio from prior generations.
