CD Projekt releases statement on “Our Commitment to Quality”

It's fair to say that the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 went worse than expected for CD Projekt Red. While some fans, mainly on PC, appeared to be satisfied with the launch state of the much anticipated open-world ‘RPG’, many were not. In the wake of the title being removed from the PlayStation Store, and the game continuing to suffer from a litany of issues, CD Projekt has now released a statement on their “Commitment to Quality.”

The video is headed by CD Projekt’s co-founder Marcin Iwiński, who discusses the fact that “the console version of Cyberpunk 2077 did not meet the quality standard we wanted it to meet,” adding that fans should not “fault any of our teams for what happened” but instead position their disappointment towards himself and the board of directors (whose call it was to release the game in its current state).

That being said Iwiński later appears to attempt to shift the blame somewhat, seemingly claiming that the plethora of bugs and glitches experienced by nearly everyone who picked up the game at launch were all allegedly missed during the testing process – which seems highly unlikely.

Whatever you think of Iwiński’s statement, the current state of Cyberpunk 2077 has led to some changes regarding the timeline of future updates. The free DLCs which were originally positioned as arriving in the early months following launch have now been pushed later into the year. Likewise, the next-gen upgrade will now be arriving sometime during the second half of 2021, meaning that PS5 and Xbox Series X|S owners may not get to experience the next-gen Cyberpunk experience until possibly one year after the launch of the consoles themselves.

Of course, it is entirely understandable that fixing the many bugs and glitches should be the top priority for CDPR right now, it is just disappointing that the game launched in its current state in the first place.
