Back in 2006, Core Design was hired to work on a remake of the original Tomb Raider. The remake would have released on Sony's PSP, celebrating the game's 10th anniversary. The project was ultimately cancelled in a near-completed state. Now, the development build has leaked, giving us a look at what could have been.
Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition ended up being scrapped in favour of Crystal Dynamics' own Tomb Raider: Anniversary package, which released later in 2007. In the video below, we get a quick tour of the cancelled remake's version of Lara's mansion:
Core Design ended up shutting down in 2010 after a string of cancelled projects. As is often the case, the company's assets were sold off and somewhere along the way, alpha builds of Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition ended up in the hands of the public.
The version available is from 2005 and can be booted up using a patch, Microsoft's Visual Studio and an Xbox 360 controller. From there, players can explore Croft Manor, as well as levels set in Peru and Greece. Unfortunately, the levels are devoid of enemies, so don't go in expecting any combat.
