Apple could be bringing out its next-generation iPad Pro much sooner than expected. Reports this week indicate that the next 12.9-inch iPad Pro will be coming in March, complete with a mini-LED display.
According to MacOtakara's supply chain sources, the mini-LED iPad Pro will be 0.5mm thicker than the previous generation but the style of the housing will remain the same. There may be some slight alterations to speaker placement but that appears to be the only noticeable change outside of additional thickness.
The big upgrade here is the display. Mini-LED is a new form of backlighting that provides many of the same benefits as OLED, but with better brightness, power efficiency and reduced risk of burn-in. So far, Apple has been reluctant to bring OLED displays to its tablet line-up, it seems that for its larger display devices, Apple is opting to focus on mini-LED instead due to its benefits.
If all of this proves true, then Apple should be hosting a virtual announcement event in March. We may also see a new 11-inch iPad Pro during this time too.
KitGuru Says: I've been waiting for a major display upgrade before picking up a new iPad. Depending on how well mini-LED ends up comparing to OLED, this could end up being on my shopping list later in the year. Are many of you thinking about buying an iPad in 2021? Will you be waiting to see new models launch first?
