Intel is already shipping Rocket Lake and Ice Lake processors, Alder Lake on track for 2021

Intel just had its Q4 earnings call and during its presentation, the current CEO of Intel, Bob Swan, and the upcoming CEO, Pat Gelsinger, gave shareholders updates on the status of several upcoming CPU launches.

First of all, Intel CEO, Bob Swan, has confirmed that the company has already started to ship both Rocket Lake-S and Ice Lake-SP processors to customers. He also stated that the data centre-oriented Sapphire Rapids and Alder Lake mobile and desktop processors are being sampled to customers. Intel Alder Lake CPUs are expected to start mass-production during H2 2021, while Sapphire Rapids' product qualification should be complete by the end of 2021.

Regarding Intel's long-term objectives, the future CEO of Intel, Pat Gelsinger, also came to discuss the current state of the 7nm process node. After “personally examining progress on Intel’s 7nm technology”, Gelsinger stated he is “pleased with the progress made on the health and recovery of the 7nm program”. Intel's next CEO is confident that in 2023, most of the company's products will be manufactured internally, but as Intel's portfolio increases, some technologies will have to be outsourced to external foundries.
