Though there once was a time when licensed games were nothing more than cheaply made tie-ins created with the purpose of getting more money from fans of the property the game is based on, in recent years there has been a resurgence in high quality licensed video games from major development studios. The next intellectual property to receive a high quality adaptation is Indiana Jones, which will be published by Bethesda.
In the announcement, Bethesda revealed that “A new Indiana Jones game with an original story is in development from our studio, @MachineGames, and will be executive produced by Todd Howard, in collaboration with @LucasfilmGames”. The publisher made sure to stress the fact that ”It'll be some time before we have more to reveal, but we’re very excited to share today’s news!”
Alongside this announcement was a teaser video, which did little more than confirm the existence of the game – though fans of the film franchise will undoubtedly find hints and clues hidden within the video.

Commenting on this collaboration, Machine Games (who are known best for developing the recent Wolfenstein games) said “As huge fans of the franchise, it’s a tremendous honor for us to create a brand-new Indiana Jones game with a completely original story”. Adding that “we’re very excited and can’t wait to share more in the future!”
Since its inception, Machine Games has worked exclusively on first-person shooters. It’ll therefore be interesting to see how they develop and bring their experience to this new game. Unfortunately it looks as though we’ll have to wait a while to find out.
