Hitman 3 recouped development costs in first week

It has been a while since IO Interactive split off from Square Enix and went independent. Since then, the team has been working hard on Hitman 3, which released to high critical acclaim last week. IO Interactive's bet on itself is already paying off too, with Hitman 3 already recouping its development costs.

IO Interactive CEO, Hakan Abrak, has announced that Hitman 3 recouped its development costs during the game's first week on sale. Moving forward, Hitman 3 will be generating profit for the company, putting the studio in a good position for its next big AAA development push.

Speaking with GI.biz, Abrak expanded a bit on the journey its had with Hitman 3: “It has been a labor of love between our fans and everyone at the studio. As the developer and publisher, we are immensely proud that we can say Hitman 3 is already profitable. We have recouped the total project costs in less than a week. That puts us in a really good place and allows us to confidently move forward with our ambitious plans for future projects.”

While Hitman 3 will be getting DLC this year, IO Interactive appears to be taking a break from Agent 47 over the next few years. Instead, the team will be developing a James Bond game, based on an original story. Abrak also spoke a bit about the studio's James Bond plans this week, which we reported on HERE.
