Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is coming to Steam in August

2024 marks the 35th anniversary of the Prince of Persia franchise. While Ubisoft had not released a new entry in years, the publisher surprised many with the launch of the excellent metroidvania Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown back in January. As has been the case for many years now, the game was not available on Steam, instead being exclusive to Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store. Finally, the title is set to come to Valve’s platform this August.

Making the announcement on their blog, Ubisoft officially announced that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown would be coming to Steam in just a few months, saying:

“Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will make the leap to Steam on August 8, when PC players will have a new way to experience the critically acclaimed, gravity-defying, Metroidvania-inspired adventure through the time-cursed fortress of Mount Qaf.”

The game received high praise upon its release back in January, amassing a Metacritic score of 86 – becoming the second highest rated entry in the series.

The Steam release will arrive just in time for The Lost Crown’s first story DLC, which is set to arrive in September. That said, those who purchase the game on Steam will benefit immediately from a number of free updates which have been released since the game’s launch – adding dozens of new challenges, amulets, outfits and more.

The lack of a Steam release for The Lost Crown undoubtedly affected the game’s visibility on the PC platform, and so it is exciting to see the game finally set to be unshackled from the Epic Games Store / Ubisoft Connect.
