Following an announcement at CES 2024, Lexar has finally launched the NM1090 PCIe 5.0 SSD. Available in three models with up to 4TB of storage, the new Gen5 SSD boasts sequential read speeds of over 11.5GB/s and sequential write speeds of over 9GB/s.
Equipped with a 4GB onboard SLC dynamic cache and support for Microsoft DirectStorage, the NM1090 SSDs can reach sequential read speeds of 12GB/s (4TB and 2TB models) and sequential write speeds of 11GB/s (also 4TB and 2TB models). The inclusion of 232-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory chips further elevates their performance, allowing them to perform random reads and writes at a speed of up to 1400K IOPs.
To tame the heat generated by the SSD during high loads, Lexar has implemented a thermal management approach consisting of a heatsink with a fan featuring an RGB halo and thermally conductive silicone sheets. According to Lexar, this system improves cooling by up to 30%. It's also worth noting that these SSDs have an MTBF of 1.5 million hours and a rated durability of 700 TBW per TB of storage.
The NM0190 NVMe Gen5 SSD will be available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities, all backed by a 5-year warranty. Wccftech shared the NM1090 line-up pricing in China, where the 1TB model will cost 1,599 yuan (approximately £178), and the 2TB variant will cost 2,699 yuan (£300). Pricing for the 4TB model is still unknown.
KitGuru says: Compared to most Gen5 SSDs featuring a built-in heatsink with a fan, the Lexar NM1090 has the most appealing design. Hopefully, the performance will be as good as its aesthetics.
