CD Projekt Red hacked, Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 source code stolen

CD Projekt Red has been hacked again, this time around though, it appears to be a much bigger deal. As confirmed by the company itself, an attacker has managed to breach CD Projekt's systems and obtain source code and other confidential files related to Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3.

The hackers did leave a ransom note, which CD Projekt Red shared on Twitter. In the note, the attacker claims to have “full copies of source codes” for Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, Gwent and the unreleased version of The Witcher 3 – which could be the next-gen console version that was announced late last year.

The hacker also claims to have important company documents, including development docs, HR information, accounting forms, legal documents and more. The attackers have threatened to release all of this information if ransom demands aren't met.

CD Projekt Red has already confirmed it has no plans to pay a ransom and is currently in the process of restoring its IT infrastructure. This isn't the first time that CD Projekt Red has suffered from something like this – prior to the release of The Witcher 3, developer documents and assets were leaked online.

KitGuru Says: A source code leak is typically a very big deal, so this is not good. We should have updates on this in the weeks to come as investigations into the hack continue.
