Ghost of Tsushima has sold 6.5 million copies

Upon its launch in July of 2020, Ghost of Tsushima far exceeded sales expectations becoming PlayStation 4's fastest selling first-party original IP debut. It seems this sales success has continued into 2021, with it being confirmed that Ghost of Tsushima has sold 6.5 million copies in less than 9 months.

As part of the recently announced Ghost of Tsushima film adaptation (which is being directed by the same Director as John Wick – Chad Stahelski), Deadline reported that the game has officially sold over 6.5 million copies since its launch on the 17th of July 2020.

Upon its original release, Ghost of Tsushima sprinted to success, selling 2.4 million units in its first 3 days, making the game the PlayStation 4's fastest selling first-party original IP debut. In November, this figure was updated, revealing that Ghost of Tsushima had sold 5 million copies. Now, just 4 months later, the game has sold a further 1.5 million, bringing the total sales to 6.5 million copies sold.

With 6.5 million copies sold, Ghost of Tsushima has officially outsold the studio’s previous project, 2014’s InFamous: Second Son, which sold 6 million copies by 2019.

With such a strong sales success so quickly into its life, it comes as no surprise that Sony wants to capitalise on the game’s popularity by adapting it to film. Hopefully the adaptation proves to be just as successful as the game.
