After releasing Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics turned its attention to Square Enix's Marvel initiative, putting its development resources behind The Avengers. That game hasn't really taken off and now it seems that Crystal Dynamics is turning its attention back to Tomb Raider for a while.
As part of a celebration video for Tomb Raider's 25th Anniversary, Crystal Dynamics explained that it plans to celebrate with a year of “nostalgic content”. Meanwhile, the studio will be working to unify what people loved about past Tomb Raider games and the new reboot trilogy.

The statement comes from Tomb Raider franchise game director, Will Kerslake (via Push Square): “We envision the future of Tomb Raider unfolding after [the rebooted trilogy], telling stories that build upon both the breadth of Core Design and Crystal Dynamics’ games, looking to unify these timelines. With Tomb Raider’s extensive history, this is not an easy task, and we ask for patience as we go through the process.”
With this in mind, it seems like the next Tomb Raider is in the early days of pre-production. It'll take a number of years, but at least fans know a new Tomb Raider is indeed in the works.
KitGuru Says: I expected Tomb Raider to take a pretty long break after Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but it seems that new ideas are already being explored for a new game – which is great news. Were many of you fans of the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy? Would you like to see a new entry with more elements from classic Tomb Raider games?
