We've known about IKEA's partnership with ASUS ROG for a while now. The two companies began planning ‘gaming furniture' back in 2020 and in January, this line of products officially launched in China. As it turns out, this isn't a China-only arrangement, as launches are planned in other countries throughout the year.
Ikea's new gaming range of products will consist of six product families: HUVUDSPELARE, UTESPELARE, MATCHSPEL, GRUPPSPEL, UPPSPEL, LÅNESPELARE. The UPPSPEL products have been co-designed between Ikea and Asus ROG. The rest has been developed by Ikea “based on the insights and knowledge gained from the collaboration”, ensuring that gamers have their function and design needs met, while also keeping these products at a reasonable price.
There will be a total of 30x products, including gaming desks and chairs, a drawer unit, a mug holder, a mouse bungee, a neck pillow, a ring light, and more. Each product family will have its own gaming desk and chair with different price ranges and features to increase the variety of choices for the customers.
Kris Huang, general manager of the ASUS gaming gear and accessory business unit, claims that thanks to this new partnership, Asus ROG will “find new and interesting ways to delight gamers in and around the home”. Ewa Rychert, global business leader of workspace at IKEA of Sweden, claims that the currently available designs are mainly “masculine” despite 46% of the gamer population being female. With these new pieces of furniture, Ikea wants to “democratise the gaming experience” by presenting new products that they “hope to reflect people’s personality and taste”.
In May 2021, the IKEA x ASUS ROG line-up will make its way to Japan. More countries will be added to the list by the end of October 2021.
