New Intel Core i9-11900K benchmark shows improved performance

We've already had one Intel Core i9-11900K benchmark leak, but an updated test run this week shows improved performance. In a new Geekbench 5 run, the Core i9-11900K scored over 1,900 points in the single-core benchmark and 11,000 points in the multi-core benchmark.

With a top single-core score of 1905 and a multi-core score of 11048, the 8C/16T Intel Core i9-11900K beats its predecessor by about 35% in the single-core test, while scoring a similar result in the multi-core test, despite featuring 2 cores and 4 threads less. These scores are also improved over the 11900K benchmark we saw in January, where a sample scored 1892 in the single-core test and 10934 in the multi-core benchmark.

The Core i9 processor in these tests was running on a Gigabyte Z490 Aorus Master and 32GB of DDR4-3600 memory. It's unclear if the processor was overclocked or not, but during both runs, it was often running at +5.2GHz, with a few operating frequency drops.

In the Geekbench 5 single-core test, it beat the fastest AMD Ryzen processor (Ryzen 9 5950X) by about 13%, but it still far behind in the multi-core test due to the inferior core and thread count. In the multi-core test, the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X scores about 52% more than the Intel Core i9-11900K.

The fairest comparison with an AMD processor would be with the Ryzen 7 5800X, which scores 1682 in the single-core test and 10427 in the multi-core test. Compared to the Core i9-11900K's scores, the Intel processor is 14% faster in single-core and 5.5% in multi-core.

At the moment, Intel is expected to launch its 11th Gen Core series processors in March 2021.

KitGuru says: Are you impressed with these scores? How do you think the Intel core i9-11900K will fare in real-world applications?
