Lawsuit claims PS5 DualSense controller is ‘defective’

Nintendo and Microsoft have been making headlines over the last couple of years due to lawsuits around ‘Stick Drift' on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch controllers. Now, Sony is also joining those ranks, with a law firm filing a class-action suit over the PS5's DualSense controller.

Stick drift is an issue that causes phantom movement to be registered by the controller’s analogue stick. In some cases, it can take years for this to become a problem and in others, stick drift can manifest within a few months. In the case of the PS5 DualSense controller, users have begun complaining about this issue just a few months after launch.

Law firm Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith LLP filed the lawsuit on the 12th of February, shortly after launching an investigation calling for DualSense owners to share their experiences with drifting issues. The lawsuit filing claims that the DualSense is “defective”, adding that this issue “compromises the DualSense controller's core functionality”.

The lawsuit is of course similar to the ones Microsoft and Nintendo are currently fighting over Xbox One drift and Joy-Con drift respectively. So far, neither case has gone to trial. Nintendo rarely addresses the issue, meanwhile, Microsoft is attempting to force their lawsuit into arbitration. So far, Sony has not commented publicly on the DualSense lawsuit.
