EA cancels Motive Studio’s new IP ‘Gaia’

EA has had a very busy week. So far, we've seen Anthem's reboot plans scrapped, multiplayer/live-service elements scrapped for Dragon Age 4 and to top it all off, EA has also pulled the plug on another secretive project, known as ‘Gaia'.

Gaia has been in development at EA Motive for six years now and has been briefly teased a couple of times over the years. It was set to be a big sandbox game and would be a brand new IP.

At around the 1:03 mark, you can see some Gaia gameplay in pre-alpha form, it is not much, but it gives us a small look at what the studio was working on.

According to Bloomberg's sources, Gaia began facing development troubles and underwent at least one major reboot back in 2018. Over the years, many creative leads left the project, an issue that contributed to the game's recent cancellation. Jobs at EA Motive won't be impacted by this move though, as there are plenty of other projects for those developers to move on to.

KitGuru Says: We didn't really see enough of this game for it to generate much hype. Still, hopefully EA Motive has more success with its next major project.
