Each week, the Epic Games Store offers a number of games for free to all those with a registered Epic Games account. This week, users of Epic’s storefront can get their hands on the open-world first person shooter Rage 2.
Rage 2 is a sequel to the 2011 post-apocalyptic shooter which was released in 2019. Developed by Avalanche Studios in conjunction with id Software, Rage 2 benefits from the open-world knowledge of the studio behind the Just Cause series (Avalanche Studios), as well as the first-person shooting expertise of id Software (DOOM).
Unfortunately, even with this collaboration, Rage 2 suffered from mediocre reviews from both fans and critics alike, due in part to the game’s “uninspired open world design, clunky driving and a shallow story,” despite offering a fun combat experience.
The other title available for free this week is Absolute Drift. A much smaller game in scope, Absolute Drift is a top-down arcade racer which has players “Journey from apprentice to master as you hone your skill in a gorgeous minimalist world. Push yourself to the limit on drifting tracks and wild mountain roads until you finally master the art of drifting.”
Both Rage 2 and Absolute Drift are available to purchase and download for free from now until the 25th of February, at which point they will be replaced by Sunless Sea.
