Sony confirms more PS4 games coming to PC, Days Gone coming ‘this spring’

Last year, Sony began experimenting with bringing PlayStation exclusives to PC, starting off with Horizon Zero Dawn. While there were rumours that more PC games were on the way, things went quiet for a long time. That changes this week, with Sony confirming that Days Gone will be the next PS4 exclusive to also release on PC. 

Speaking with GQ in an interview published this afternoon, PlayStation head, Jim Ryan, confirmed that more exclusive games will be coming to PC, in an effort to expose some of the great games “from the latter half of the PS4 cycle” to a wider audience.

“I think a few things changed. We find ourselves now in early 2021 with our development studios and the games that they make in better shape than they’ve ever been before”, Ryan said. “Particularly from the latter half of the PS4 cycle our studios made some wonderful, great games. There’s an opportunity to expose those great games to a wider audience”.

As for why Sony is bringing its exclusives to PC, that all comes down to the “economics of game development”. Touching on that subject, Ryan explains: “The cost of making games goes up with each cycle, as the calibre of the IP has improved. Also, our ease of making it available to non-console owners has grown. So it’s a fairly straightforward decision for us to make.”

Apparently, there has been “no massive adverse reaction” from the PlayStation community regarding PC getting Horizon Zero Dawn and as a result of that successful test, we can expect more PS4 games on PC in the next couple of years, starting with Days Gone “this Spring”. There is no word on whether or not PS5 exclusives like Horizon Forbidden West will head to PC, for now, the focus seems to be on PS4 titles.
