Developers set to expand studio, following Valheim’s success

Valheim is the latest surprise success story, after the Early Access game quickly gained traction. Just a few weeks after launch, the game has sold over 3 million copies. The developers have now commented on this success, announcing their commitment to expanding the studio in order to keep supporting the game.

Valheim is described as “a brutal exploration and survival game for 1-10 players, set in a procedurally-generated purgatory inspired by viking culture”. Released on the 2nd of February 2021, the game shot to immediate success, topping the Steam sales charts, and selling over 3 million copies.

Commenting on all this, the developers, Iron Gate AB’s co-founder Henrik Törnqvist spoke to PC Gamer, saying “We had a feeling that it would sell pretty well, at least to sustain us, you know. But it being a million seller, and now two million seller, is something we could never have guessed,” adding that “It's quite incredible, and very humbling also.”

Currently, Iron Gate AB consists of only 5 people. Sustaining a game as big as Valheim has become would be difficult. As such, Törnqvist has confirmed that “We will hire some people, absolutely. We are currently starting up that process. Yeah, there will be more people to handle everything, because we have reached our limit by now of everything we can do.”

Valheim has had a great start, and fan reception has been consistently positive. Hopefully Iron Gate AB will be able to maintain this momentum in the long run.
