RX 6700 XT ray-tracing and 1440p gaming performance revealed

While AMD's latest generation graphics cards all support hardware acceleration for ray-tracing, the company has not revealed ray-tracing performance numbers during launch events. In the case of the RX 6700 XT, ray-tracing performance numbers have leaked early.

Thanks to gaming benchmarks obtained by wccftech, we now know how the RX 6700 XT stacks up against the RTX 3060Ti and RTX 3070 in ray-traced games at 1080p resolution.

At 1080p, the RX 6700 XT beats the RTX 3070 and RTX 3060Ti in World of Warcraft, Dirt 5 and Fortnite and comes close to on-par performance in Godfall. However, the upcoming GPU loses out in Black Ops Cold War, Control, Metro Exodus, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Watch Dogs Legion and Battlefield 5.

Switching ray-tracing off and turning the resolution up to 1440p shows that the RX 6700 XT is a very capable 1440p gaming GPU. In these tests, the RX 6700 XT comes out on top much more regularly, offering higher performance in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Battlefield 5, Borderlands 3, COD: Black Ops Cold War, Dirt 5, Fortnite, Hitman 3 and Immortals Fenyx Rising.

There are other cases where the RTX 3070 comes out on top in games without ray-tracing, including DOOM Eternal, F1 2020, Resident Evil 3, The Division 2, Watch Dogs Legion and Death Stranding.

The AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card will be available starting on the 18th of March. We'll also have reviews going live that same day with more benchmarks and performance comparisons.

KitGuru Says: If you're main goal with your next upgrade is to play games with raytracing on, then you might want to wait for AMD's new ‘Super Resolution' feature, which will be the Radeon alternative to Nvidia's DLSS. If ray-tracing isn't all that important to you, then the RX 6700 XT is shaping up to be a very good 1440p card.
