Delta emulator 1.6 update brings Pokémon to iPads

Apple opened the door for emulators to appear on the iOS App Store, removing the need for any jailbreaking, or using something like the AltStore. Delta, one of the most popular Nintendo iOS emulators immediately took advantage of this opening, releasing an app for iPhones back in April, but iPad support has eluded users so far. That changes this week, with Delta now supporting larger iPad displays.

The Delta emulator has maintained a high position on the App Store charts since launching in April. The app allows users to run ROMs for classic Nintendo systems, including the Game Boy and its successors, and even the Nintendo DS. Users get on-screen touch controls to navigate games, and in my experience, it all works pretty flawlessly.

The Delta emulator was forced to change its logo back in May, after Adobe sent legal threats over the logo being too similar to Adobe's own branding. As a result, the logo was quickly changed and work on future updates continued.

As of this week, the Delta 1.6 update is now rolling out. The update has yet to be approved on the App Store but if you have AltStore set up, you can grab the update early. It shouldn't take long to work its way through Apple's approval process though. This update will finally introduce support for larger iPad displays, so you can play the classics on a bigger screen. Users may also find it more comfortable to play on the iPad with a Bluetooth controller, such as the Switch Pro gamepad, a DualShock or DualSense controller, or the Xbox gamepad.

iPad users will also benefit from the ability to run multiple games at once, so you can swap between different games, or make use of iPadOS features like Split View.

KitGuru Says: The Delta emulator has been working well for me so far. Once iPad support rolls out for all, I'll be checking it out. Have any of you used Delta on iOS in the last few months?
