Activision reportedly cancelled plans for Crash Bandicoot 5

Toys for Bob impressed fans around the world with the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane trilogy and Crash 4. However, under the old corporate overlords at Activision, the studio also had many projects cancelled and was slowly being turned into a Call of Duty support studio. As it turns out, one of the studio's cancelled projects was indeed a fifth mainline Crash Bandicoot game.

After shipping Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time in late 2020, Toys for Bob began eyeing up plans for a sequel. However, according to concept artist, Nicholas Kole, those plans didn't get very far, with the project being cancelled.

Unfortunately, Kole does not reveal anything else about Crash 5, likely due to legal concerns over speaking out publicly. This artist had also been working on another game, Project Dragon, at another studio, which was also cancelled.

Toys for Bob had been an Activision studio, working on IP like Crash and Spyro, while also taking on support duties for massive franchises like Call of Duty. After Microsoft acquired Activision in late 2023, Toys for Bob secured an agreement with Xbox, allowing the studio to go independent. The two companies will continue to collaborate though, as the studio's next game is being funded and published by Xbox, leading many to speculate about a new Crash Bandicoot or Spyro game.

KitGuru Says: Crash Bandicoot 4 didn't sell as well as the remastered trilogy, so it isn't too surprising to hear that the overlords at Activision were turned off by the idea of a sequel. However, Toys for Bob is still working with Xbox, so the chances are good that we'll see a new Crash or Spyro game from the studio in the future.
