CI Games has recently announced that a sequel to Lords of the Fallen (2023) is in the works and will be exclusively published by Epic Games for PC, at least at launch. The decision not to release the game on Steam has surprised many fans, considering the success of the previous instalment, which sold 1.3 million copies by the end of 2023.
Despite the positive sales figures, CI Games has faced its own challenges. The company initiated a reorganisation effort earlier this year, resulting in around 30 layoffs. However, the studio has remained steadfast in its commitment to delivering a sequel to its latest action RPG.
The document (via Neowin) revealed that CI Games has secured an exclusive PC distribution deal with Epic Games for the upcoming sequel. In the document, the game is referred to as “Project 3”, but it's known that CI Games trademarked “Death of the Fallen” some months ago, leading many to believe that may be the sequel's name.
While the game will not be available on Steam upon launch, CI Games has retained the rights to publish the title on other platforms, including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It's not uncommon for Epic Games to secure exclusive publishing deals for PC titles under its umbrella. However, there have been instances, such as with the Kingdom Hearts series, where games initially exclusive to Epic on PC have eventually found their way to other platforms, including Steam.
