NZXT H7 Flow (2024) Case Review

Rating: 8.0.

Don't be confused by the name, KitGuru did indeed review the NZXT H7 Flow in 2022 – however this is a different case that, confusingly, bears the same name. The big difference is that NZXT has given the H7 Flow a serious overhaul by turning the power supply on its side and opening up the floor of the case to deliver heaps of airflow to your graphics card. In addition we have mesh panels on every surface and the result is a mid-tower case that promises the best cooling in the business along with stylish good looks.

Main features

  • Minimal Footprint. Maximum Performance.
  • The H7 Flow stays true to a traditional mid-tower design while adding bottom fan support for direct GPU cooling due to the vertically-oriented PSU.
  • Takes up less desk space unlike dual-chamber cases.
  • High-performance mesh panels maximize airflow and dust filtration for both intake and exhaust.
  • Includes pre-installed front-mounted fans for out-of-the-box cooling
  • H7 Flow: 3x 120mm fans
  • H7 Flow RGB: 1x F360 RGB Core single-frame fan

Specification:

  • Motherboard support: E-ATX, ATX, Micro-ATX, Mini-ITX.
  • Power supply support: ATX.
  • Expansion slots: 7.
  • Included fans:
    • 3x F120Q 120mm front intake with H7 Flow
    • 1x F360 RGB with H7 Flow RGB.
  • Fan mounts: 3x 120mm/140mm front, 3x 120mm/2x 140mm roof, 1x 120mm/140mm rear, 3x 120mm floor.
  • Radiator mounts: 360mm/420mm front, 280mm/360mm roof, 120mm/140mm rear.
  • 5.25-inch optical drive bays: None.
  • Internal drive bays: 2x 3.5-inch/2.5-inch, 2x 2.5-inch.

Testing

To put this case through its cooling paces we will be using a test system consisting of an Intel Core i9-14900K, RTX 4080 graphics and an SSD. This system allows us to produce a substantial amount of heat and effectively test the NZXT H7 Flow‘s cooling capabilities.

Test System:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-14900K
  • CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite 360
  • Motherboard: NZXT N7 Z790
  • Memory: 32GB Kingston Fury Vengeance DDR5-6000MT/s
  • Graphics card: Gigabyte RTX 4080 16GB
  • Power supply: NZXT C1500 Platinum
  • SSD: Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus M.2 NVMe
  • OS: Windows 11

Cooling Performance

Cooling Performance Overview

In our video you can see the steps we took by first swapping out the stock fans on the Kraken Elite 360 AIO cooler, then adding a fan in the rear of the case, followed by fans in the floor and finally a set of RGB fans in the front. These huge changes made very little difference to the temperature of the graphics card and the single largest effect was an increase in CPU temperature when we ditched the stock Kraken fans.

Our takeaway is that the NZXT H7 Flow lives up to its name by flowing huge amounts of air through those mesh panels and also – to our pleasant surprise – the Kraken fans do a decent job.

Closing Thoughts

NZXT sent us a large stack of extra hardware along with our samples of the NZXT H7 Flow and H7 Flow RGB, and that made our review slightly complicated.

If we dial things back and look at the subject of the review, which is the case, then things clear up nicely. The H7 Flow is large, effective and flows air like a champ. Every panel is Mesh and it works very much like an open test bench.

The significant change from the original H7 to this new version is that the power supply has been flipped on its side. This opens up the floor of the case and creates an unusual one-and-a-half chamber case that has loads of space in the right hand side for cable management.

The end result is a very tidy build that looks good both in the main chamber and also on the right side. The only downside to this approach is that the case is fairly tall and you need to find something – anything – to fill out the space under your graphics card. Naturally we hope that ‘something' is RGB.

Pros:

  • Huge amounts of mesh and loads of air flow.
  • Panels are easy to remove and building is easy.
  • Excellent cable management.

Cons:

  • None of the panels have an air filter.
  • You need to use plenty of hardware to avoid the case looking large and empty.
  • The top fan mounts are fixed.

KitGuru says: The NZXT H7 Flow lives up to its name and delivers impressive performance.
