Life is Strange: True Colors officially announced

Yesterday, Square Enix held its ‘Square Enix Presents Spring 2021’ game showcase. One of the biggest announcements was that of Life is Strange: True Colors, the next entry in the popular choice-based graphic adventure game series. Alongside a trailer, the publisher also revealed the game’s release structure and release date.

“A bold new era of the award-winning Life is Strange begins, with an all-new playable lead character and a thrilling mystery to solve! Alex Chen has long suppressed her ‘curse': the supernatural ability to experience, absorb and manipulate the strong emotions of others, which she sees as blazing, colored auras. When her brother dies in a so-called accident, Alex must embrace her volatile power to find the truth – and uncover the dark secrets buried by a small town,” reads the plot summary.

As can be seen from the trailer, Life is Strange: True Colors has seemingly improved both graphically and animation-wise over the franchise’s previous entries. This is due partially to the fact that True Colors is the first game in the series to use full motion capture for its characters, making for even more life-like performances (an important function in these character-focused stories).

Unlike previous entries in the series, Life is Strange: True Colors will release all in one go, with all of the game’s chapters available on the same day: the 10th of September 2021. The Life is Strange series has quickly become a fan favourite, receiving a dedicated following. It is therefore encouraging to see Square Enix throw a lot of weight behind the series, seemingly giving it the publicity and budget that it deserves.
