2018’s God of War while serving as a soft reboot for the franchise, exists within the same world as the previous entries. That being said, it is left unexplained as to how Kratos ended up in Midgard. A newly announced comic aims to answer this question.
As reported by IGN, God of War: Fallen God is a 4-issue comic series from Dark Horse, which is said to explain “what happened to Kratos after slaughtering Zeus and Athena and what led him to try his hand at being a husband and father again.”
The official synopsis for the comic reads as follows: “God of War: Fallen God follows Kratos after conquering Zeus and thwarting Athena. Believing himself to be finally free of his bondage, he sets sail for the desert in an attempt to distance himself from his home and his shame only to find his rage and guilt follow close behind. Kratos rages against the one foe that has proven to be unconquerable—himself. But a war against oneself is unwinnable, and only invites madness.”
It is not uncommon for video games to have tie-in novels or comics. God of War has already previously had such a thing. It will be interesting to see what occurred between these two games, as it is likely to provide insight into Kratos’ mind, and will undoubtedly excite fans who are eagerly awaiting more news from God of War: Ragnarok. The first issue for God of War: Fallen God releases on the 10th of March.
