Microsoft and others in talks to acquire Discord for as much as $10 billion

Microsoft isn't only interested in acquiring game developer studios, it seems the company is also looking at gaming-adjacent services for acquisitions too. This week, reports claim that Microsoft is currently in talks to buy Discord – potentially for more money than it spent on acquiring Bethesda.

According to VentureBeat, Discord is actively in talks to be acquired by multiple parties. Bloomberg added to the story, claiming that Microsoft is a frontrunner in these talks and could offer as much as $10 billion to buy the company. This would be an even bigger expenditure than acquiring Bethesda, which cost Microsoft $7.5 billion.

Of course, there are other suitors, including the likes of Epic Games and Amazon. Last year, Discord was valued at $7 billion, so rival bids could be driving the price up.

Discord is not a profitable company yet, but it could be a useful tool. On Amazon's end, Discord can be used to promote Twitch, meanwhile, Microsoft and Epic Games could use Discord to replace its own game-chat services.

KitGuru Says: Nothing is official yet, but it looks like Discord will have new ownership sometime this year. How many of you continue to use Discord? How would you feel about a larger company like Microsoft buying the app?
