Halo co-creator’s studio V1 Interactive shutting down

V1 Interactive attempted to make a big splash last year with the release of Disintegration, a new Sci-Fi strategy shooter from the co-creator of Halo. Unfortunately, the game fell flat and its multiplayer services were pulled just months after release. Now, the full studio is ceasing operations.

V1 Interactive was founded five years ago by Marcus Lehto, who previously co-created Halo with Bungie. The studio has been in rough shape for a while due to low sales of Disintegration, the studio's debut game. Multiplayer services for the game went offline back in November 2020, leaving players with just the campaign.

In a tweet last night, the studio announced it would be shutting down. Lehto added to the announcement, saying that the studio will continue to support its staff while they search for new jobs in the industry before dissolving:

“We’ve been transparent with them about the state of things for months and are making this decision now so they still have ample time to search for new jobs while being supported by our studio”.

V1 Interactive had partnered up with Private Division, an indie publishing subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive. The publisher has also gone on record as labelling Disintegration sales as “disappointing”.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
