Little Nightmares offered a unique and visually disturbing horror platformer when it launched back in 2017. The game was enough of a success to warrant a sequel, with Little Nightmares II announced at Gamescom in 2019. Following its launch on the 11th of February, it has now been announced that the sequel has already sold 1 million copies, in just one month.
Making the announcement on its website, the game’s publisher Bandai Namco, revealed that “In less than a month after its release, Little Nightmares II has reached more than one million units sold, making it the first title developed by BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe to do so in this timeframe.”
The publisher also offered updated sales figures for the 1st game. According to Bandai Namco, since its release on the 28th of April 2017, the original Little Nightmares has sold 4 million copies, putting the franchise now at a total of 5 million copies sold. The most recent sales figures for the first game put the title at 2 million copies sold as of May 2020, meaning that even though the first game took 16 months to sell its first million, it sold over 2 million copies over the past year.
This increase in sales trajectory bodes well for the sequel, especially considering the team has yet to release the PS5 and Series X|S version of the game, which will surely boost interest further. Bandai Namco concluded by saying “We can't wait to share with you what's next in the Little Nightmares universe,” indicating that there is much more to come.
