Rocket League Sideswipe announced for mobile

Ever since its launch in 2015, Rocket League has become a major player in the industry, with well over 50 million users. Following its success on consoles and PC, Rocket League is now tackling the mobile market with Rocket League Sideswipe, “a new, standalone Rocket League experience built from the ground up for mobile platforms that's coming later this year!”

Rocket League Sideswipe is described as a “free mobile game for iOS and Android that takes the core, competitive gameplay of Rocket League and reimagines it for a mobile device”. The game offers “fast-paced, 2-minute matches that you can play with friends near or far thanks to online play” in 1v1 or 2v2 arrangements.

Rocket League Sideswipe shares much of its DNA with the console release, including “robust car customization,” “advanced mechanics” and “an online Ranking system for competitive play.”

Though no release date was given, aside from ‘later this year’, the team announced that “starting today, players in Australia and New Zealand will be able to join a limited-time Regional Alpha test on Android via the Google Play Store.”

The original Rocket League offers a competitive game which is accessible to any and all skill levels. It will be interesting to see how this is translated to mobile with its new 2.5D perspective.
