Resident Evil Village to be part of a trilogy

The Resident Evil series features many characters, all of whom are part of different sub-series while being a part of a greater universe. Resident Evil Biohazard introduced the latest protagonist, Ethan Winters, who is returning for the upcoming RE: Village. It would seem Ethan’s story won’t end there however, as Village is said to be the second game in a planned trilogy.

According to DuskGolem, who has leaked many Resident Evil details in the past, Resident Evil Village is the second entry in a planned trilogy. This trilogy idea was reportedly decided very early on, with “some things put in RE7 that will make more sense after RE8.”

They continued, adding that “RE7>RE8>RE9 have a connected, planned out story” which was developed closely together, with these links being closer than any other previous RE titles.

Following Resident Evil 9 however, Capcom reportedly plans to move away from numbered entries, in order to “tell more self-contained stories rather than have to plan out stories ahead of time.”

Resident Evil Village looks promising so far, and so it will be interesting to see where the story goes, and just what Capcom has planned for Ethan Winters. The publisher has announced a Resident Evil showcase for the 15th of April, where fans will hopefully get to see more from the much anticipated game – as well as the team’s plans for the future of the franchise.
