Dead Rising stands out as a timeless gem, transforming the tired concept of zombies in a shopping mall into a unique survival game that captures the madcap fun of improvising weapons and capturing undead mayhem on film. The original 2006 release, which broke new ground by bringing the living dead to a shopping centre, is now set for a deluxe remaster over a decade after its PC debut and almost two decades since its original launch.
Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is essentially a remaster of a remaster, updating the 2016 HD Remaster that expanded the original 2006 game beyond its Xbox 360 exclusivity and onto PC.
Capcom's teaser (above) features photographer and zombie-slayer Frank West plunging out of a helicopter at the Willamette Parkview Mall. Even in the short cutscenes, it appears notably different from the HD Remaster, with better textures and even a redesigned character model of Frank. It also seems that Frank may get a new voice, with fragments of lines re-recorded from original actor TJ Rotolo.
Capcom's description of the remaster as ‘an updated release with a brand new look' hints at potential gameplay enhancements and additional content to complement the enhanced visuals. With the power of modern hardware, it's reasonable to expect more zombies swarming the screen, intensifying the chaos and action. The teaser's reference to a 2024 release signals an imminent launch, yet specific launch platforms and dates are yet to be disclosed.
