It looks like ASUS ROG and Razer have some new competition in the gaming smartphone market. Today, Lenovo is announcing the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2, which looks to be an absolute powerhouse with high-end specifications throughout.
Available in Ultimate Black or Titanium White, the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 packs Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 888 SoC, up to 16GB of LPDDR5 memory and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. There is also a dual battery system with 5,500mAh of total power capacity, which is a 10 percent improvement over the original Legion Phone Duel. As you would expect, there is a large 6.92-inch AMOLED display with HDR 10+ support and a fast 144Hz refresh rate, the touch sampling rate is set at 720Hz.
As we can see, this phone has plenty of power for gaming, but what other features are present to enhance the mobile gaming experience? The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 has eight virtual keys, four of them being ultrasonic shoulder keys, two rear capacitance screen touch points and two in-display force touchpoints. The placement of these keys will match a gamers natural grip on the smartphone when held horizontally, so users can bind keys to actions and gain precise touch feedback when being used thanks to the dual X-axis haptic vibration motors.
In order to keep the device running at its peak for long gaming sessions, extra attention was paid to cooling and component placement. The CPU is in the middle of the phone, so your hands won't be sat directly on a hotspot where heat is being dissipated. Beyond that, Lenovo has designed an active twin turbo-fan cooling system paired with a vapour chamber and other materials, including copper heat pipes and graphite pads.
For those occasions when you want to take a picture, there is a 44MP pop-up camera with an ultra-wide 84-degree autofocus lens. This camera is deemed to be live-stream ready and through software, users can remove backgrounds, use real-time overlays and other effects.
Finally the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 also supports 90W fast charging over USB-C, which enables charging up to 100% capacity in just 30 minutes.
The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 will be available in Europe starting in May 2021. Pricing starts at £699 for the version with 12GB of memory and 256GB of storage. If you want a full 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage plus Lenovo's charging dock station, you'll be looking at an £899 price tag.
KitGuru Says: The Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 is shaping up to be a beast on paper. What do you all think of the sudden rise in gaming smartphones? Would you choose a Lenovo Legion Phone Duel 2 over a ROG Phone or a Razer Phone?
