AMD launches Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.4.1 with enhanced features

Today AMD is releasing Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.4.1, complete with enhanced features including remote gaming functionality, customisation capabilities and better streaming and system monitoring tools.

In a pre-briefing attended by KitGuru last week, AMD confirmed that this version of Radeon Software introduces a new installer, which will allow users to install just the basic graphics driver, or install Radeon Software with its full suite of features. Team Red also announced AMD Link 4.0, which now fully supports windows and has faster streaming, lower latency and new options for higher bandwidth streaming, up to 144Hz support and Dolby 5.1 surround sound.

The new AMD Link update also includes a new feature called Game Link, which enables virtual couch co-op play. Users can share a code with a friend to connect to their machine and from there, both users are able to play a game, either in a multiplayer mode or by passing control back and forth between users. This is similar to Steam Remote Play or other programs like Parsec, except now it can all be controlled within Radeon Software.

This new driver update also adds Colour Deficiency Correction, which is an accessibility feature for those with colour blindness. Three sliders will be available to adjust the three primary colours and thus allowing colour blind players to see the game more clearly. This is something that isn't always supported in games themselves, so it is a nice option to have at the driver level.

Those who like to stream or record gameplay using Radeon Software will find some new improvements as well. A new adaptive quality mode is present for streaming, which will automatically adjust stream quality settings for a stable and smooth stream. This new driver also introduces support for Microsoft PlayReady DRM with AV1 hardware decoding – which is supported on RX 6000 series graphics cards.

Many Radeon GPU users also have a Ryzen processor at this point and now Radeon Software has monitoring tools for both, so you can keep an eye on CPU performance as well as GPU performance and adjust settings to suit your needs. The Radeon Software UI has also been reworked for a simpler layout and with the new installer, users can choose to simplify the UI further by installing the driver with fewer features.

The final major bullet point for this driver is AMD Crash Defender, which is a new stability feature that preserves data and allows the system to recover from BSOD scenarios and other hangs or crashes. The AMD bug report tool will then allow users to directly report any issues to the AMD driver team, which should result in faster bug fixes.
