Microsoft's Age of Empires Fan Preview event took place over the weekend and sure enough, we got plenty of new information about Age of Empires IV. The long-awaited sequel has been in the works for a few years and now, we finally have a release window – with the game set to release in ‘Autumn 2021'.
Aside from release date news, we also received a new gameplay reveal, showcasing early building stages, enemy encounters and how buildings upgrade as you progress through the ages. In summary – it looks like an Age of Empires game.
Age of Empires IV will include four ages and eight playable civilisations. So far, the civilisations revealed include the English, the Chinese, the Mongols and the Delhi Sultanate, all of which will progress through the four included ages – Medieval, Feudal, Castle and Imperial.
The developers also revealed the Norman Campaign for the single-player component of the game. Here, players will learn about Duke William of Normandy, fighting through the Battle of Hastings and challenging various kings of England, including King Robert, King William II and King Henry I.
Age of Empires IV is due to launch this year and will arrive day-one on Xbox Game Pass for PC, as well as launching on Steam and the Windows Store.
